Ki Ilu – As If (A poem for our times)

a mountain range with the blue sky above
To be ‘as if’ I could be another person, time, or place
To travel beyond who I am and float internally with grace

To become another and transform anew
Move back in history with a slightly different view

In order to feel, know, and be awakened
So different understandings can be hastened

Empathic expanse, renewed understanding
Deeper awareness with humanity advancing

Accept that which seems abhorrent
To shift and soften what is discordant

To calm the tide of polarities
Endeavor to massage and find similarities.

To be ‘as if’ I were the other
To share and hold and even suffer.

Being different than what is known
To cause disruption and feeling alone

To heal the divide by being ‘you’
To know it deeply from a broader view

Shared connections to create and renew
Even feeling your pain, ‘as if’ – Ki ilu
