Ani l’dodi v’dodi li
Adonai sees IsraelLit. ''the one who struggles with God.'' Israel means many things. It is first used with reference to Jacob, whose name is changed to Israel (Genesis 32:29), the one who struggles with God. Jacob's children, the Jewish people, become B'nai Israel, the children of Israel. The name also refers to the land of Israel and the State of Israel. and
Israel harkens to The Voice.
Sharing a love for one another,
Fear of judgment is vanquished.
Solemnly entering this month of Elul,
We know that the Time of Writing lies ahead.
There is much which we must willingly account for,
And our task can become daunting and scary.
Though requiring us to bare our very souls,
We trust that Adonai will fairly judge us.
Each of us admits our transgressions,
Standing together as one before Gd,
Gd who loves and cares for all Israel,
Israel who loves and honors Adonai.
With open arms, we say;
“Ani L’dodi V’dodi Li...”
Love has arrived!
Elul, has begun.
