Calculating and Recalculating

A metal gate featuring a Star of David
Calculating…
Recalculating.

Since that Shabbat morning,
I look out into a world
With fear in my eyes.
Calculating…
Recalculating.

Where can I be a Jew
and be proud,
feel safe.
not wonder
who is noticing me?

Calculating…
Recalculating.

Where can I take my children
and speak in our holy tongue?
feel safe.
not wonder
who is noticing me?

Calculating…
Recalculating.

Who will offer support,
love?
Feel safe.
Not wonder
who is noticing me?

Calculating…
Recalculating.

Is this all politics for you?
Just the price of occupation,
of war?
Is there space with you,
to mourn?
To pray?
To act?

Calculating…
Recalculating.

My ancestors knew this world,
one of fear and what ifs.
a world where to be safe,
to live,
requires

Calculating
&
Recalculating.

Ribono Shel Olam,
Master of All,
may my calculations be precise.
may I find peace,
safety,
love.

And to all this we say, Amen
