What I talk about when I talk about love

My soul visits the Gaza Strip

Sees where the bomb was cast

A deep pit

And horror.

My soul visits the Gaza Envelope

Sees where the bomb was cast

A deep pit

And horror.

My love is as deep as these pits

When I talk about love I speak the language of the depths

And the healing of the sounds of blasts.

Like a mother gathering her children close

I gather the shards

And the mothers whose homes collapsed beneath them

And the mothers whose children died in the war

I heal the hole with contemplation

The contemplation envelops the pit that formed the pit.

There’s a pit in the soul

That forms a pit in the world

There’s a pit in the world

That forms a pit in the soul

And horror.

I embrace the pits and the craters

I embrace the female creators

I embrace the pain of all created beings

I embrace my own soul

And surrender to the practice of sorting sparks from shards.
