To Not Lose Hope

view of earth from space
There’s a world of death and suffering
inside a world of beauty and love,

a world of misery and warfare
inside a world of kindness and friendship,

a world of machine guns and cruelty
inside a world of peace and bliss.

We hold these worlds inside of us:
wrestle with our dualities,
pray for forgiveness,
forgive others.

As we walk through valleys of shadowed death,
we remind ourselves
of eternal light at the core
of the universe

which holds everything in place,
prevents chaos from destroying us,
wakes us up each morning
to begin anew and
not lose hope.
