This Moment, Oh This Moment

A person walks alone on a sun-dappled road surrounded by tall, dense trees.

What small prayer
could open the heart
without creating too much space
so that it breaks?
What tiny offering
could bring comfort in the midst of
such chaos and noise?

Would that Shekhinah could offer
to wrap us all in her ample arms
saying:
“yes, my children, all will be well once again”

giving us the power to believe
that after this long night
surely dawn must bring
songs of peace
sung so loudly
they drown out the drumbeats
of endless war

For now, all that we have
is to be together in this brokenness
inspiring enough courage and compassion
to create even the smallest spark
of hope
once again
lighting our path
