Reading: Passing Through The Generations Before

A group of women in a temple gather for a ceremony, one holding a baby wrapped in a green blanket.

Moses received the Torah at Sinai and transmitted it to Joshua, Joshua to the elders, and the elders to the prophets, and the prophets to the People of the Great Assembly.

And, we add that the People of the Great Assembly told of its wisdom, passing it around like a shared cup of joy. They spoke of it in their home and on their way. When they lay down and when they rose up. Their families spoke of it. And the teachers in the schools. The folk in the marketplace and the leaders of the government. The children in their play. And as they grew. And they spoke of it to their children.

….Until, until it was a thread woven through all our lives…even as it weaves its way through the hearts of the generations before you, ________________, and winds its embrace around your heart.

On the bimah, the clergy then facilitates the passing of the Torah from generation to generation down the line of family members present.
