Our God and God of our ancestors:
We pray now, knowing we are a flawed people
living in a flawed country and a flawed world.
When these flaws seem insurmountable,
invigorate the warmth of community,
so we have the solidarity to face the world’s challenges together and
the resolve to keep our hope alive.
When this hope seems sparse,
Fuel the fire within our souls,
So we have the clarity to fight for what’s right,
The courage to dream of a better future, and
The strength to continue this struggle.
Help us to keep alive these embers of clarity, courage, and strength
so that we may come together
and do the work needed to create a world without oppression,
a world without hate, and
a world without injustice.
These fires in our souls, these embers of clarity, courage, and strength,
may be sustained by our righteous anger, a burning passion
that things are not right,
that things are not just,
that things are broken.
When this righteous anger rises,
grant us the wisdom to use this passion with love,
so that we may do the work of tikkun olam
and resist the destructive impulses of hate and resentment.
We know that you cannot do this work for us,
but we ask you to uplift us with our community,
our resolve,
our courage,
our strength,
our clarity, and
our wisdom.
And when these embers burn low,
remind us of our ancestors who never gave up.
Our ancestors who kept fighting,
kept living, and
kept pursuing justice.
Amen.
