Kindling The Light

You shall further instruct the Israelites to bring you clear oil of beaten olives for lighting, for kindling lamps regularly. — Exodus 27:20

Did the Israelites refresh the lamp?
Or did the light in the Tent of Meeting
stay lit without renewal?

I consider the difference
just as rabbis of old, debating
translations, analyzing words.

My faith resembles passion
not easily sustained
in long marriage.

I can’t dismiss all doubt
in this angry world
so absent of answers.

But I can feel the wisdom of kindling
again and again, making it a daily endeavor.

Dedicating time each day to seek the light.
