Dreaming It Up

I have climbed up and down mountains
All my life,
It’s never been about the climb nor the goal,
It’s always been in search of something more,
But my heart has never been transfigured,
And no voice but my own has kept me on track.

Angels ascend and descend
On the ladder of my dreams,
They know my longing so well,
I watch as their wispy forms
Float away,
Leaving no trail to follow, no sign, no trace,
Only a sneaking suspicion I’m dreaming
It all up.
