Blessings Before Food and Drink

Over Bread:

בְּרוּכָה אַתְּ יָהּ אֱלֹהֵינוּ רוּחַ הָעוֹלָם הַמּוֹצִיאָה לֶחֶם מִן הָאָרֶץ

Berukhah At Yah Eloheynu Ruakh Ha’olam, hamotziyah lekhem min ha’aretz.

You are blessed, O God, Spirit of the World, who brings forth bread from the earth.

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה אֲדֹנָי אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם הַמּוֹצִיא לֶחֶם מִן הָאָרֶץ

Barukh Atah Adonay Eloheynu Melekh Ha’olam, hamotzi lekhem min ha’aretz.

You are blessed, O God, King of the Universe, who brings forth bread from the earth.

Over food (other than bread) prepared from wheat, barley, rye, oats, or spelt:

בְּרוּכָה אַתְּ יָהּ אֱלֹהֵינוּ רוּחַ הָעוֹלָם בּוֹרֵאת מִינֵי מְזוֹנוֹת

Berukhah At Yah Eloheynu Ruakh Ha’olam, boret minei mizonot.

You are blessed, O God, Spirit of the World, who creates various manners of food.

  בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה אֲדֹנָי אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם בּוֹרֵא מִינֵי מְזוֹנוֹת 

Barukh Atah Adonay Eloheynu Melekh Ha’olam, boreh minei mizonot.

You are blessed, O God, King of the Universe, who creates various manners of food.

Over wine or grape juice:

     בְּרוּכָה אַתְּ יָהּ אֱלֹהֵינוּ רוּחַ הָעוֹלָם בּוֹרֵאת פְּרִי הַגָפֶן

Berukhah At Yah Eloheynu Ruakh Ha’olam, boret pri hagafen.

You are blessed, O God, Spirit of the World, who creates the fruit of the vine.

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה אֲדֹנָי אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם בּוֹרֵא פְּרִי הַגָפֶן

Barukh Atah Adonay Eloheynu Melekh Ha’olam, boreh pri hagafen.

You are blessed, O God, King of the Universe, who creates the fruit of the vine.

Over fruit:

בְּרוּכָה אַתְּ יָהּ אֱלֹהֵינוּ רוּחַ הָעוֹלָם, בּוֹרֵאת פְּרִי הָעֵץ

Berukhah At Yah Eloheynu Ruakh Ha’olam, boret pri ha’etz.

You are blessed, O God, Spirit of the World, who creates the fruit of the tree.

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה אֲדֹנָי אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם בּוֹרֵא פְּרִי הָעֵץ

Barukh Atah Adonay Eloheynu Melekh Ha’olam, boreh pri ha’etz.

You are blessed, O God, King of the Universe, who creates the fruit of the tree.

Upon eating fruit for the first time in a season, add:

בְּרוּכָה אַתְּ יָהּ אֱלֹהֵינוּ רוּחַ הָעוֹלָם שֶׁהֶחֱיָתְנוּ וְקִיְּמָתְנוּ וְהִגִּיעָתְנוּ לַזְּמָן הַזֶּה

Berukhah At Yah Eloheynu Ruakh Ha’olam, shehekheyatnu, vekimatnu, vehigiyatnu lazeman hazeh.

You are blessed, O God, Spirit of the World, who has kept us in life and sustained us, enabling us to reach this season.

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה אֲדֹנָי אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, שֶׁהֶחֱיָנוּ וְקִיְּמָנוּ וְהִגִּיעָנוּ לַזְּמָן הַזֶּה

Barukh Atah Adonay Eloheynu Melekh Ha’olam, shehekheyanu, vekiyemanu, vehigiyanu lazeman hazeh.

You are blessed, O God, King of the Universe, who keeps us in life, who has kept us in life and sustained us, enabling us to reach this season.

Over food which grows on the ground:

בְּרוּכָה אַתְּ יָהּ אֱלֹהֵינוּ רוּחַ הָעוֹלָם, בּוֹרֵאת פְּרִי הָאֲדָמָה

Berukhah At Yah Eloheynu Ruakh Ha’olam, boret pri ha’adamah.

You are blessed, O God, Spirit of the World, who creates the fruit of the ground.

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה אֲדֹנָי אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם בּוֹרֵא פְּרִי הָאֲדָמָה 

Barukh Atah Adonay Eloheynu Melkch Ha’olam, boreh pri ha’adamah.

You are blessed, O God, King of the Universe, who creates the fruit of the ground.

Over other food and drink:

בְּרוּכָה אַתְּ יָהּ אֱלֹהֵינוּ רוּחַ הָעוֹלָם, שֶׁהַכֹּל נִהְיֶה בִּדְבָרָהּ

Berukhah At Yah Eloheynu Ruakh Ha’olam, shehakol nihyeh bid’varah.

You are blessed, O God, Spirit of the World, at whose word all things come into being.

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה אֲדֹנָי אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם שֶׁהַכֹּל נִהְיֶה בִּדְבָרוֹֹ

Barukh Atah Adonay Eloheynu Melekh Ha’olam, shehakol nihyeh bid’varo.
