Radical Hope

Source of Wonder,
You call us to meet these times with radical hope.
With patience, perhaps?, I ask,
convinced you had misspoken,
Hadn’t you noticed the monotony
that has come over us?
Radical hope, You repeated.
With courage?
Because there’s so much suffering everywhere
Courage must be what you are asking us.
Radical hope, You said once again.
I pause, Holy One,
hope is so scarce these days of
sleepless nights, of separation and distance,
You speak to me tenderly,
And I remember, G-d, that I have known it;
The radical and relentless hope
that has brought us forth before,
that makes us choose and love life.
Grant us, G-d,
the wisdom to meet these difficult times with
Life-affirming and life-giving radical hope.
