Prayer for Peace?

Colorful chalk drawing on pavement with the message Be Kind in pink and blue.

It feels irresponsible to pray for peace.
How can our thoughts stop a war a world away,
or end the extinction of  another species?
It is up to us to start the peace.
Begin by silencing the internal doubt
that stops us from realizing our own potential,
and from that place
live in confidence.
Act with kindness in every interaction – in our homes, classrooms and workplaces.
Be upstanders for injustice and silencers of bullies every day.
Confront our own privilege while working to lift up others.
Initiate every interaction from a place of love.
Model what it means to be peace.
And then pray for our actions to radiate exponentially beyond us.
Praying for peace is not the answer.
Living it is.
Let this prayer for peace awaken us and have peace begin with us.
