What the Future Holds

Purple lupine flowers growing in a green field with a blurred natural background.
Haven’t we all wished
For beauty that lasts from sunset to sunset
For peace that spreads from rivers to seas
Everywhere
For springs that keep singing
for wildflowers that keep blooming
all season long
And for love that never fades
Haven’t we all struggled
with words that keep hope alive
as we walk together at low tide
trash picking on wet sand
as we did yesterday   and the day before
so that our children can play
to their heart’s content as we watch
wondering what the future holds
