Multiple voices once spoke of who we are, white, Christian, immigrant, slaves, those first on this land,
A country that began when many of the above came here to be free of the ‘royal’ hand.
Crossing the mighty seas with hope and faith for a new and brighter tomorrow,
Two hundred and fifty years later so many seem to sing a song of deep sorrow.
Stolen from its rightful owners, natives who cultivated respect and natural order
There are those who wield their darker side creating fear and massive disorder.
Who are we – what are we as we come to this mighty inflection point?
Do leaders have the right to undo the promise and disrupt while they anoint
A single voice that does not reflect the spirit and hunger of “We the People,”
Who share a common goal and socially align and cry it from the tallest steeple.
An intention by many to harbor those whose lives are threatened and safety diminished,
A pathway for those from countries afar where violence, rape, and humanity are unfinished.
Celebrate we must as we truly live amongst the divergent and the many
Of different religions, colors, cultures, and customs galore, majestic, and plenty.
We must teach the value of the unique and the Divine within, in awe and wonder of it all
When each voice can speak and share its commitment unafraid to stand proud and tall.
“I pledge allegiance to this flag…” with stars and stripes, in love we heed the call
that reminds us, “one Nation under God…with liberty and justice for all.”
