Adonai, Eternal One,
As we commemorate the 4th of July
With thanksgiving and sadness
With trepidation and hope
With fear but also joy
With our community of Americans—
And those who thought they were Americans, but have not been treated as such…
We cherish our beautiful land, our “purple mountain majesties above the fruited plain”—-
God, shed Thy grace on us.
In spite of our imperfections
For the sake of those striving to create a better country.
A country of love and compassion
And of Tikkun Olam
Where all who live here find equality
Find joy
Find prosperity and welcome
Find peace.
We pray that we will find our way
From the narrow place
To the broad place.
Adonai, Eternal One, bless us.
Bless our country.
Bless our children
And future generations of Americans.
Amen.
