When God created the Heavens and the Earth and all their array, He created two Luminaries. Before there was Time, the two Luminaries would rise together and fall together in the same path. Rising and falling, spinning around and around, the Luminaries were always together, whispering their thoughts and musings on Creation and planning how they could better bring Light into the world God was creating.
God then decided to create Time and Space. He came to the Luminaries and declared that one would be named Sun and the other would be named Moon, and that Sun shall rule over the Time called Day and that Moon shall rule over the Time called Night. God then left Sun and Moon as he continued His formation of Creation.
Sun and Moon turned to each other. “How will we part after we have risen together and fallen together all this time?” asked Sun.
Moon smiled assuredly. Though we may be on different paths and orbits from now on, perhaps crossing each other only now and then, I will still be here to pull you up into the Heavens when it is your time. And when it is my time, you will pull me up into the Heavens. Through our phases, we may not see each other, but I know you will be there pulling me up and I will pull you up – that is what Luminaries do.
Sun bowed to Moon one last time before setting off to rule Day. “I thank you for the time you have spent sharing your light with me,” said Sun.
“And I am grateful for your light you have shared with me,” said Moon as she bowed toward Sun. “Until we meet again, my friend.”
And so it is with us – we may not cross paths in our orbit, but we can find comfort in knowing that when we find it is our time, we can reach out knowing we will be pulled up by each other, so we can bring our own Light into the world.
