The Solace of Shabbat

roses in hazy summer sunlight

I used to coax more time from the clock,
seeking to slow minutes on my watch.

Now I invest no effort in stretching time.
June so quickly becomes July, and
yet another lifetime friend is gone.

I often trudge through the minutes,
except when with the ones I love
or at soothing Shabbat services.

Time seems inconsistent,
nothing like my loving heart.
