Low-hanging gray clouds
stretch across the horizon
obscuring the snow-frosted peaks to the north
the wisdom of the earth’s history only visible by our hearts
South of me are stands of fir
beyond hillside of pinot grapes transform and contour
as tiny streams run to meet the Tualatin
draining our valley towards the sea
Mt. Hood looms crowned with streaks of snow
its peak a testament to faith that each day will rise in the east
and the life’s light will spread over the landÂ
a warmth forgiveness for all of creation to continue to grow
All below at days end begins a blending
whether brilliant reds, orange and coral or dimly lit shadows
the evening is ushered in as the in-between time
before the fitting end to each day’s rest under a star-light sky.
