Shadows of War

I see so many smiling faces
Beautiful young men and women
Parents and children
I see black and white and in between
Jew and Muslim and Christian
Arab and Israeli
All of them in pictures of the past
All of them smiling no more
Dead and gone
Because hate
Because misunderstandings
Because reasons…
Reasons mean nothing to the dead
Reasons mean nothing to the survivors
Reasons mean nothing in the harsh light of consequence
Reasons are but shadows of war
