Prayer for bringing a child to overnight summer camp

teen jumping into a lake
My child,
May you be safe.

May you find friends who will be loyal enough to support you
and trusting enough to release you.

May your counselor be a reliable older sibling for you<
Modeling ways to navigate the storm of puberty

May you have food that nourishes you and makes your body grow.

May you be warm at night.
I packed blankets and coats and pajamas for you, but I cannot pack a hug or a snuggle.

I’m proud of you, my child, for the courage to step away from family and  familiarity

I chose this camp for you, my child, because I believe it will nurture your curiosity
I chose this camp because its values align with ours
(I chose this camp because I was a camper here and so were your grandparents)*
I chose this camp because I imagine you coming home <
<bigger, healthier and smarter after this summer.< I>Add your own reasons why you chose this camp for your child, and your own visions of how your child might come home changed.

I will wait for your letters, my child,
I will save the pictures from camp
I will miss your presence
I will await your return.

Fly my child, fly…

May the angels guard you in all your ways
May God guard your goings and comings from now and forever
