This meditation can be read aloud by service-leader or by entire congregation after OmerFrom the second day of Passover until Shavuot, Jews count seven weeks – seven times seven days – to commemorate the period between the Exodus from Egypt and the Revelation at Sinai. When the Temple stood, a certain measure (omer) of barley was offered on the altar each day; today, we merely count out the days. blessing is recited.
As we count the days, let us also remember that we count. Let us draw strength and comfort from each other as we move forward through these days together. As we count the lengthening days and watch the surrounding fields turn from green to gold, let us strive to make peace our ultimate harvest.
