I was born into the family of Israel
Her history recoded in my DNA
So My people are Israel
But my body, born in the USA
is made of Florida and Oregon soil
who’s to say
when what cell was recycled when
but
my DNA is still made of Israel.
So I studied my family’s history
her story
create joy in her holy days
Delight from learning how
our sages turned
the turning of the earth and her seasons and farmed land
into inspiration
for the turning of our souls.
I pray in my ancestral language
except when I really want to feel
requires the language of my childhood
and my everyday.
