I’m proud to be Jewish
We’ve grown from an ancient lineage
Some choose deeply traditional directions
Others, like me, reconstruct with creative companions
Certain ones in mortal fear of a recurrent past
Resurrect as literal bygone texts of conquest.
Putting the lives of so many at risk
While denying the sanctity of each diverse soul.
I will not surrender my inbred Jewish pride
As a people we can trace our being in this Universe
Long ago, seeking understanding some wrote Torah to explain
Today we can choose for the sake of life to redefine
Words of praise, gratitude and desire, echo forth
In a world so often seeming out of control
Others want an undeniable explanation
We search for new meaning around us
Our humanity craves life and eternity
Yet we all face suffering and mortality
Some try to conquer all that surrounds
We seek love and peace among all
