Everyday Teshuvah: Parshat Ki Teitzei

person sitting alone against a world head folded into their knees
In Memory of Elie Wiesel, z”l

“The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it’s indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it’s indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it’s indifference.”–Elie Wiesel

Blessed is the One who teaches:
Do not ignore.
Do not walk with your eyes turned to the heavens
past those who have been burdened
with an uneven, too-heavy load
and fallen on a treacherous highway.
Do not turn your eyes from the distress of wandering sheep or ignore those painfully yoked or the lost object
or the anxious seeker.

Open your eyes to the world’s pain. Listen.
Turn and stretch yourself towards your fellow creatures,
animal or human.
Help as and when and where you can.
Remember that the opposite of love is indifference,
and the opposite of holiness is indifference
and the opposite of life is indifference.

And believe: the opposite of indifference is yours to choose.
