Â
Endless
first crack of light through tohu va-vohu.
Dawnbreaks
envelop all
level all
sustain all.
Eyes in sensitive search
eye insensitive calamity.
Some rightfully cherish olive trees.
Some morally seek olive branches.
How far back are we willing to go?
This is what we’ve come to.
Stuck in claims of blessings and curses,Â
What are we afraid of?Â
Sudden surpriseÂ
of a no longer mute donkey who might speak sense to usÂ
of a leviathan who vomits us back into a temporal world
of a gan-eden snake more aware than we
of a mysterious unblemished rare red heifer Â
of a ram bound for slaughter in a human thicket
of a goat spared to carry our sins into wilderness
of a people exilic
of anonymously waiting over and over to be counted at Unetaneh TokefÂ
All those begat clans waiting for the nextÂ
under a stiff necked new moon.Â
Dawned on me this teshuvah morning,Â
turn toward images kind in light.
Hear the Sefirot indwelling voice
that answers to itself – a – you – unique.Â
Dawn sheensÂ
tarnished arks, trampled dust,
shines toÂ
shines fromÂ
shines inÂ
shines outÂ
shines forwardÂ
shines back
endless.
