Blessings for Donating an Organ

Blessings after an organ donation
For a healthy and strong body
That weathered numerous vials of blood, x-rays, ultrasounds, MRIs
and more to make sure it was indeed healthy and strong.
For the wisdom of the nurses and advocates
Who took me through each step of the process, answered all my questions,
large and small, and appreciated and acknowledged me
each and every time I saw or spoke to them.
For the perseverance of the recipient
fighting every day for another day.
For the hands and brains of the surgeon and her team
for ensuring a smooth, safe procedure and recovery.
For the love of my family
Who may not totally understand my decision,
and who wondered and worried about the risk I was taking on myself,
but who love me fiercely and served as caretakers and cheerleaders through all of it.
For my community
Who fed and nourished my body, my heart and soul
with emails, texts, cards, food, visits and so much honor.
For my scars
My reminder of giving someone else a better chance at life.
For all of these
I have been blessed, and I have been strengthened.
