An Acrostic (Vidui) For Our Time, 5785

two people sitting on a bench

We have Avoided, Angered, Blindly viewed, & Blamed,
Ceased talking to loved ones, & Despaired.
We have Escalated tension, Feared our children & parents,
& Fought with family.
We’ve Generalized, Given in to powerlessness, & Hated,
Ignored nuance, & Justified our reflexive actions on social media.
We’ve Kept grudges &, Lacked tolerance,
Marginalized, were Narrow-minded,
& did Not listen to those closest to us.
We gave in to Overwhelm, Pained dear ones,
& Pigeonholed others by Protest or Political Party.
We’ve been Quiet instead of speaking out,
& Ruminated without taking action.
We have Scorned, Shut out, & Spoken with disregard for truth,
Taunted & Tuned out, & made others feel Unseen & Unheard.
We’ve disregarded Views of those we disagreed with,
& Written off friends, family & colleagues.
We’ve X-ed out folks with who upset us,
Yelled at our parents and children & made them cry,
& Zealously stood by our convictions without paying heed to others.
