A Maariv Aravim for the Purim Season

Could there be
Words of wonder enough to praise
The fullness of this alchemical creation,
A universe ever in formation?
A mixture of light and dark
Of even-ing the day into evening.

Soon will be twilight,
And, Neighbor,
I may not know your face in the dusk.
Our recognition shifts with the even-tide.
What masks do we all wear in this time of changing light?
The lots of Purim are thrown,
And we find ourselves inhabiting day
Or night
Or somewhere in between.
May we have the courage
To take a twilight moment
As a chance to try on a different mask.
To see who we can become.

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יי, הַמַּעֲרִיב עֲרָבִים
Blessed are You, Adonai, who brings on evening.
