A Kavannah Before Engaging in Challenging Conversations

two women sit across from each other in a darkly lit restaurant, engaging in conversation
This kavannah (intention) is for anyone who is about to engage in a challenging or difficult conversation, in any situation that stems from disagreement. You may want to use this kavannah as you prepare for a scheduled conversation, to read it in advance of the conversation or use with a challenging conversation that comes up organically and catches you off-guard. Writing it as a note on a card or in a ‘notes’ app on your phone are a couple of ways to have it easily accessible when needed.

Blessed one,
May I have the courage to listen with compassion,
May I have the patience to answer with respect,
Bless me with the curiosity of a child and the wisdom of generations as I engage in this conversation.
May it be your will, that this moment of learning will help me grow, evolve and improve as best as can be.
Amen.
