Humanistic Hanukkah Blessings

Every night
Lighting the shamash we say:

Barukh ha-or ba-adam, barukh ha-or ba’olam, asher mekhadsheinu b’masorteinu, b’hadlakat ner shel hanukkah.

Blessed is the light in humanity, blessed is the light in the world, that renews us with our traditions, as we kindle the hanukah lights.

Barukh ha’or ba’adam, barukh ha’or ba’olam, berukhim hama’asim tovim la’amim bazman hazeh

Beautiful hanukkah is here
eight candles for me,
Beautiful hanukkah is here,
eight candles for me, oh!

Chorus:
One little candle, two little candles,
Three little candles, four little candles;
Five little candles, six little candles, seven little candles,
Eight little candles for me.

Lots of parties I will do

With happiness and pleasure
Dainty pastries to eat
With almonds and honey, oh!

Chorus
One little candle, two little candles,
Three little candles, four little candles;

Five little candles, six little candles, seven little candles,
Eight little candles for me

Mi Yimalel
Who Can Tell?

Mi yimalel gvurot Yisrael?
Otan mi yimne?
Hen be’khol dor yakum ha’gibor
Goel ha’am!
Shma!
Ba’yamim ha’hem ba’zman ha’ze
Maccabi moshia u’fode
U’v’yameinu kol ha’olam
Yitakhed yakum ve’yigael!

Who can tell of the deeds of our people?
Who can count them?
In every generation a hero arises
To save the people.
Listen!
In those days at this time
The Maccabee saved and redeemed
But in our days the whole people of the world
Will unite, arise, and save.
