A Blessing Before Posting on Social Media

a woman sits on the grass looking at her phone
Oh God and God of my ancestors,
thank you for opening my eyes to
empathy and love in the face of
destruction and close mindedness.
Thank you for whatever it means
to have free will, to think, to form
my own opinions, to know when
and who to share them with, and
for courage. for courage to grow
and change and to admit wrong
and still be loved. Bless the people
who break my heart and who’ve had
their hearts broken. Help them find
the comfort and familiarity they
seek now, so they may access the
histories and stories they avoid at
a time when they are ready to listen.
keep those who are feeling isolated,
angered, and attacked by our shared
community feel safe and held, and help
them know with who and where to find
home. may our echo chambers
break down alongside the walls of
oppression and hate that keep humanity
reliant on fear and violence. May I be
humbled to not to feel as though I have
any true power to create meaningful,
lasting change from my squares
of influence, but let my presence, lack
thereof, and offline conversations
make a mark on those who are ready
for their impression.
