Our broken hearts are whole

A poem on taking a stand, inspired by the model of Shifra and Puah

Memories evoked by polishing silver for Rosh Hashanah

“There was a box of treasure / That I carried, / An offering / Of grace / And sin. / I will set fire to it.”

Standing at a doorway in time, ready to start the new year

A poem reflecting on how to release ourselves of guilt

“When you inhale and when you exhale / breathe the possibility of another world”

“You who would hold the sky captive, / The sea prisoner, / The land in chains…”

Now the new year is born / beginning with the wail of shofar / like life begins with the baby’s first cry.

A poem for Rosh Hashanah and beginning of the school year on sending one’s child to school
