The call comes
Va’anachnu korim
I do more than bend my knee
I bring my body down to the ground to surrender my heart, my soul, my body to the Earth
Returning to source
Feeling my aliveness pulsing
My life force beating on
Knowing that there will come a day when I will surrender one final time to the Earth
And I cry out the ancient holy words, Shema koleinu, hear our plea
Let me be remembered in the book of life this year
Let it not be this year
Not for me
Not for my loved ones
Not for anyone not leaving with dignity and at their time
Let none be taken by war, by flood, by famine, by fire
May the prayers of my breathing body and aching heart
Be received as I am held by the firm earth against my soul.
