when a sefira cries

Silhouette of a person balancing on a beam extending from a tall, stone tower against a cloudy evening sky.

for Hersh and “the six”

i don’t know how to feel this,
she says
salt water raising rivulets under the skin of her cheeks
like everything else, her
tears turned inside out

the balance between hesed and
gevurah
overcome, rotated, the
weighted pole
dropped
months ago
february or march or
maybe it was october again

how can she not remember
if she heard it fall?

i needed to learn a new word
to think about this
     funambulist
from the latin for rope
from the latin for walk

limbs and tangled hair and soft center
walking ropy curls around herself in a fog
trying to separate the water droplets from the air
certain if she could just breathe
she might also be able to
cry
