There Are So Many Ways to Pray for Our Country

A hand with a ring and bracelet rests gently on a mans shoulder in a checkered shirt.

Dedicated to Renée Good and Alex Pretti and all of the people killed in recent weeks

אֱלֹהֵינוּ וֵאלֹהֵי אֲבוֹתֵינוּ וְאִמּוֹתֵינוּ
Eloheinu v’Elohei avoteinu v’imoteinu,
Our God and God of our ancestors,
There are so many ways to pray for our country.
We pray by raising our voices and blowing our whistles,
by marching and by singing.
We pray by donating and delivering food and diapers because we know no one needs to earn the right to have enough to eat and a safe place to live.
We pray by committing to doing laundry for people we haven’t met yet,
by writing letters and making phone calls,
by breathing deeply and resting and then starting again.
We pray for our country by caring for one another
and by not listening to anyone who tries to tell us we shouldn’t.

Blessed are You, who teaches that a mitzvah leads to another mitzvah,
who fortifies our hearts with love and compassion and empathy.

And we say: Amen
