Ten Commandments*
You who began in the green garden, who witnessed water in the desert,
you who found freedom and wandered a wilderness, how will you live today?
This is our G-d, who brought us forward. Plan to plant a long-lived oak.
This is Adonai, the one, the only. See how the birch bows down.
Savor the Name, keep it holy. How will we cleanse the air around us?
Treasure Shabbat, with candles and blessing. Can you forsake all plastics now?
Despite their mistakes, bless your parents. Nobody plants a perfect garden.
Life is precious—inflict no death. The bees appreciate “no-mow May.”
Make love with integrity, make it matter. Savor the first strawberries of spring.
Why would you steal? You have so much! Sun to sweeten you, shade to comfort you.
All that is true is yours, and more. Your neighbor’s trees will give you shade.
Value your home, your family, your G-d. Know that your neighbor returns your care.
You who cross over the sea on dry land, you who enter where grapes grow enormous,
you who remember bags for your groceries: Yours is the earth, which blesses you in return.
