Simkhat Torah

A Torah scroll with Hebrew text and a silver yad pointer resting on the parchment.

Joyous day of celebration;
Direct connection to G-d’s word.
Sing and dance in exaltation,
gift of wisdom; truths conferred.
Honoring centuries of cyclical learning;
We first read the end and then start anew.
Feeding our souls- not denying this yearning,
an ancestral road map for wandering Jews.
Oh Torah, how you inspire-
Your mitzvot, your stories, your prayers.
To live our best lives we inquire
and pass these scrolls down to our heirs.
and so we give thanks for your lessons,
and for teachers who help us to see,
we can raise ourselves up through your blessings-
and move from what is- to all that can be.
