Shaking the Lulav Intention

A yellow etrog and green branches rest on a rustic wooden surface, used in the Jewish Sukkot festival.

As you shake the lulav toward the North, you say:
For the earth that sustains us
South:
For the waters that nourish us
East
For the air we breathe
West
For the warmth of the sun
Upward
For the sky above us
Downward
For the ground beneath us

Just as we honor these directions, we honor our responsibility to care for the planet and for each other. May this season of harvest inspire us with gratitude, compassion, and hope.
