We want to trust GodÂ
but how can we trustÂ
an invisible GodÂ
a God we can’t seeÂ
or touch or hear?
We want to see God’s face and stand with Moses
crammed together shoulder to shoulderÂ
in the cleft of the rockÂ
hoping to catch a glimpseÂ
of God passing by.
We want to hear God’s voiceÂ
speaking to us, telling us
the truth, the words as plainÂ
and simple as the sound ofÂ
the waves of the sea on the shore.
We want to trust in God who pardons iniquity,
even as God punishes generation after generationÂ
for worshipping false gods and making a golden calf.
How mighty is our God who hears our prayersÂ
and guides us through the wildernessÂ
of doubt and anxietyÂ
to the future waiting for usÂ
over the next hill.
