Miriam and Her Dancing Shoes

“LIFT UP YOUR FEET LIKE YOU ARE DANCING!” Miriam sang.
She raised her timbrel. The people heard it jingle.
“FOLLOW MY DANCING SHOES,” she repeated. And they did.
They moved their feet to the rhythm.
Their steps were firm.

Moses looked back and was amazed.
The people were following Miriam’s dancing shoes and the music of her timbrel.
They were not complaining. They were not grumbling.
They were singing.
They were dancing!

“The sound is so beautiful. What is it?” asked Moses. “I do not remember hearing it in Egypt.”
‘It is the song of freedom, the sound of hope,” said Miriam.
