Havdalah for the Hostages

A clear glass filled with red liquid, set against a blurred outdoor background with mountains.

Blessed are you, Adonai our God,
Sovereign of universe,
Who distinguishes between captivity and release,
Between release and freedom,
Between underground and above ground,
Between starvation and nourishment,
Between abuse and care,
Between torment and blessing,
Between days of terror and days of renewal,
Between darkness and light.
Let the day come that we
Drink the wine of celebration,
Smell spices of joy,
Raise the cup of wholeness,
In a world of sacred moments of life.

Blessed are you, Adonai our God,
Who distinguishes the holy moments
In the arc of our history.
