From the Moment We Were Born: A Poem for Father’s Day

An adult and child walk by a lakeside at sunset, surrounded by trees and warm golden light.

Everything that we are,
everything that we have become,
is because of your love.

You held us in your arms,
when we were only babies.
You watched us,
as we fought with each other.
You held our hands,
in the park feeding the ducks.
You watched us,
as we went off to school and grew up.

From the moment we were born,
we had a father who cared
about us every second of our lives.

You were there
through the tears.
You were there
through the skinned knees.
You were there
in our darkest moments.
You were there
to love, unconditionally.

You’re not a father, you’re a Daddy
who made us become who we are,
emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
