During Elul

a yellow circle with colored paint around it, inside of the circle are clouds

We’re on edge, these days of fear.
News cycles with anger:
eye for eye, tooth for tooth.

Rolling storms split the sky,
splinter air into shards.
We peer from the edge, these days of fear.

How to find peace?
Our holy texts warn:
eye for eye, tooth for tooth, life for life.

Hand to hand, we must build mirrors
from hope, imperfections, our own sharp edges,
then pierce through fear
and gaze. eye to eye. at each other.
