Asher Yatzar for All Bodies

Woman sitting cross-legged by water, eyes closed, hand on chest, wrapped in a cozy blanket outdoors.

Blessed are You, Creator of flesh, Who, in infinite wisdom, shaped us as souls wrapped in bodies—Bodies that carry out tens of thousands of digestive tasks each minute, working tirelessly to transform even that breakfast burrito into life-giving energy.

This brilliant, intricate system You crafted performs daily miracles–miracles we are often too busy to count, too distracted to notice. And yet…it also bends, and breaks, and fails. And then–then–we notice.

These bodies—our tender, stubborn, vulnerable, resilient bodies—belong to the young and the old, the nurtured and the neglected, the active and the idle, the healthy and the sick.

In every stage and at every age may we find ways to give kavod to these bodies–our bodies–because in all their fragility, in all their holy imperfection they are still entrusted to us by You, O G-d of light and darkness. May gratitude take root within us: gratitude for what is, and not only for what might have been.

Barukh Atah Adonai Borei Hol Basar Umafli Laasot.

Blessed are you, Adonai, who fashions all flesh, and works wonders beyond our knowing.
