Memory is the eternal vital sign.
And life? A persistent breath.
Sometimes, gasping.
But also, exhaling.
Letting out the vitality we hold inside.
There are maimings and then killings.
“What comes from us lasts long after us.”
Or so it is often said.
But we mustn’t forget.
Lives are meant for living.
And the breath of life can outlast even senseless death.
“So says the Lord G-d to these bones; Behold, I will cause spirit to enter into you, and you shall live!”
And I will lay sinews upon you, and I will make flesh grow over you and cover you with skin and put breath into you, and you will live, and you will then know that I am the Lord.” —Ezekiel 37:5–6
