A Jewish Companion Prayer for a Premarital Hindu Gowri Puja

On this auspicious day, for the fulfillment of my innermost prayers as I prepare to wed, and for the joy of my people, my ancestors, and You, O Shekhinah. Divine Presence, sacred Mother — I call upon You in devotion and in prayer.

Giver of Life, open my eyes when I cannot see; breathe the breath of life into me. Grant to me and to my husband-to-be many years of well-being and happiness. May our souls—immortal sparks of the Divine clothed in mortal bodies—live in harmony through a life long and well lived. May we be a blessing to the next generation and to all the generations yet to come.

I call upon You, O God, and ask that You be a steady force in our lives. Bless us and keep us, together with our family and all whom we love. May we never feel Your Presence depart from us.

I meditate on You, O Shekhinah, who dwells within each of us, guiding us through life and drawing us back to You. I remember Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah, the foremothers of my faith who trusted in You. I call to mind the courage of Hannah, Yael, and Devorah, who rose to do sacred work in Your name. May I be strong and devoted, as the generations before me have been.

You are Adonai Eloheinu — You are Shalom, You are Emet.

You are El Shaddai, You are Hokhmah, You are Ruakh.

You are the gentle Parent who guides me, Mother of the world.

You are faith, nourishment, and contentment.

You remember the merit of my foremothers and bless me and my people because of them.

God of many names — on You I meditate.

O Shekhinah, the Temple is long gone and the offerings of old have ceased, yet my heart itself becomes an altar.

I offer the fruits of my labor — my time, my effort, my love, and my resources. May these fruits make our life together fruitful until our final breath.

I offer the spices of life — the ups and the downs, the sense-awakening moments that transform me. May our life together never stagnate. May we awaken each day as if breathing in the sweetness of havdalah, savoring every moment we are given.

Bestower of merit for me and for all the generations of my people, grant me peace. I offer the divine light You have placed within me — may it shine before You and into the world all the days of my life.

Giver of blessing, Knower of all, accept my budding heart on this day. May it grow into a beautiful flower, bringing sweetness and beauty to all whom I love.

The soul You placed within me is pure. May I remember this with every breath. There is no refuge but You, God of Truth — shelter me as I go on my way.

I do not know if I have prayed as I ought, nor if my words are worthy, but You who are compassionate and ever-forgiving receive them with love. The worship of my life does not end with this moment. May the work of my hands and the goodness of my days be an offering before You.

As a parent shows mercy to a child, so You show mercy to me, from generation upon generation, in steadfast love.

My Mother, my Source, my Ruakh — grant me the blessings my heart seeks: beloved family, sufficiency and abundance, good fortune, and a home filled with sacred presence. May all my actions, by day and by night, be acts of remembrance and of worship.

I offer this humble prayer in devotion, according to my ability and with a whole heart.

May the One who makes peace in the heavens make peace for me, for my husband, for our family, for all our loved ones, and for all the world.
