During the Omer season from Passover to Shavuot, the earth is undergoing changes: defrosting and sprouting new life. Connecting with elements of nature, including those that we may not have paid much attention to–such as stones, soil, dust and even compost–can open new pathways in our spiritual lives. 
Join Kohenet and ecological educator Sarah Chandler for an exploration of Jewish texts, poetry and rituals to help you discover and write about new Jewish earth-based practices, rooted in tradition.

What’s a Gender-Sensitive Tanakh Translation, and How to Use It? | Dr. Elias Sacks

Learn about THE JPS TANAKH: Gender-Sensitive Edition and how this new translation meticulously examines each Bible verse, line, and word to provide gender-inclusive English renderings of references to God and human beings, while also using gender-specific language where historically and linguistically appropriate. Join Dr. Elias Sacks, the Director of JPS, to explore how this translation handles descriptions of humans and God, its faithfulness to the original Hebrew, and updated English renderings that extend well beyond gender considerations. Discover how you can introduce and integrate this new translation into your text study, whether personal or communal. Write a commentary or response to the translation, exploring your own use of gender-sensitive language.

Join Torah scholar and creative writing professor Rabbi Sivan Rotholz for an exploration of texts from a gynocentric approach. Discover new insights, perspectives and imaginings through this unique kind of text study and creative approach. Begin writing an original story, inspired by studying texts through a female gaze. 
 
Telling the Story of Juneteenth | Yael Navid

Juneteenth is an important day (and now a federal holiday), recognizing the end of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth calls each of us to examine the ways that we can work towards greater racial justice today. 
Join scholar and playwright Yael Naveed as she shares some of her personal story connected to her Black and Jewish identities and about why Juneteenth is meaningful for her. Discover your own connection to the story of abolition and the fight for racial justice. Write about what Juneteenth and the struggle for racial justice evokes for you.
