Morning

Morning…
Sleep still governs my body.
 
מוֹדֶה אֲנִי לְפָנֶיךָ מלך חַי וְקַיָּם שֶהֶחֱזַרְתָּ בִּי נִשְׁמָתִי בְחֶמְלָה, רַבָּה אֱמוּנָתֶךָ
Modeh ani l’fanecha, melech chai v’kayam, shehechezarta bi nishmati b’chemla, raba emunatecha
I thank You, living and enduring King, for You have graciously returned my soul within me. Great is Your faithfulness.
 
As I chant these words,
my inner voice
keeps shouting
I need more sleep.
 
Do I succumb
to the strong temptation
of
just a few minutes more rest
or do I force myself
to plunge forward
and awaken
to face another day
uncertain
of what lies ahead
yet extremely grateful
to be here to greet it?
