Eden Revisited: A Prayer on Estrangement

Between guardedness and transience
Clouds of protection
And the obscurity of not knowing from whence G-d would come,
A People forged from the earth’s goodness,
Found itself in a garden of thistles and thorns.

How did those who once found shelter in the lush garden now find themselves in a wilderness, stifled and afraid?

O, Mysterious Creator, help us seek your presence in our uncertainty and our estrangement.

Help us to see the hidden flowers beneath the painful surface and the sanctuary that arrives when we plant our roots in G-d’s name.

Amen.
